CVS, Caremark unite to create drug-sale giant

American drugstore chain CVS Corp. is acquiring Caremark Rx Inc. for $21 billion. The combined company, which will have $75 billion in annual revenue, will handle over 1/4 of U.S. prescriptions per year. The Federal Trade Commission will examine the merger closely for antitrust violations.

PAI Partners pulls out of bidding for Altadis: CVC Capital is still interested in making an offer for company

French private equity firm PAI Partners has withdrawn from the consortium it formed with CVC Capital Partners Ltd. that offered $17.19 bil for Spanish tobacco products company Altadis SA. However, British firm Imperial Tobacco Group PLC has enlisted five banks to fund a possible bid.
