Candover Investments

Candover Investments realised 100.4 million pounds sterling from the sale of an asset, in which it has invested 17.7 million pounds sterling, in 1996. Candover has undertaken several deals, during 1997, having particular expertise in the insurance market. Candover was a partner in the syndicate which backed the buyout of CE Heath, for 120 million pounds sterling. Candover is a well respected company, it has been dealing in private equity since 1980. The company is expanding its operations into Europe and has made several signifiant appointments to help expand its services.

Candover Investments has completed deals valued at a total of more than 750 million pounds sterling over the last 12 months. The company's largest deal was an equity investment of 70 million pounds sterling for Eversholt Leasing. Other recent investments include 8.51 million pounds in moulding materials firm BIP Group; the 20 million pound buyout of Midland Mining; and the management buyout of British Rail catering unit, OBS.

Article Abstract:

Candover closed its 1997 fund at over 850 million pounds sterling. The fund is expected to target large buy-out and buy-in transactions, valued at 150-200 million pounds sterling, in the UK and Europe. The 1997 fund has already been involved in the management buyout of Claverham defence and aerospace engineering company, valued at 51 million pounds sterling. Candover has recently appointed four new executives.
