Chemicke Zavody Sokolov to be fully acquired by Eastman Chemical

Article Abstract:

Chemicke zavody Sokolov (CHZS) (Sokolov, Czech Republic), chemical company, should be fully acquired by Eastman Chemical (EC) (US) in 2001. EC now holds a 97% stake and wants to buy shares from small-scale holders. The concern plans to invest USD 20 mil in CHZS to raise its acrylic acid capacity by 10,000 tonnes/y. After the enlargement of the existing plant, which will be completed in 3Q 2002, CHZS will have a total capacity of 55,000 tonnes/y of acrylic acid. The company is EC's first acrylic acid plant. At the moment the concern is not planning any further acquisitions in the Czech Republic.

Chemicke zavody Sokolov (CHZS) (Sokolov, Czech Republic), chemical company, will raise its acrylic acid production in 2002. Then the company will have a capacity of 55,000 tonnes/y of acrylic acid. The increase will be achieved due to a CEK 750 mil project, which will be financed by CHZS's owner Eastman Chemical (US).

Chemicke zavody Sokolov (CHZS) (Sokolov, Czech Republic), chemical company, set up a peroxides division and prepared it for sale in early 2001. In the future the company wants to concentrate on the production of acrylic acid and derivatives. Recently CHZS sold its white corundum production to Treibacher (Austria).
