Chuck out your T-square: Computer technology can no longer be seen as luxury addition to the drawing - creative visualization is now essential to winning jobs

Article Abstract:

Many of the millennium architectural and engineering projects can only be achieved by the use of computer modelling. The design for the millennium footbridge over the River Liffey in Dublin was achieved by the use of computer modelling, with high levels of design visualization used throughout the design process. Visualization is often essential to winning jobs and complex geometric ideas cannot be explored without the use of solid modelling techniques.

The benefits of 3D design: the ADF Partnership's experience of CAD is that it has great benefits for the practice in terms of improved presentation and efficiency

Article Abstract:

The ADF Partnership, architectural practice, is based in Glasgow, and adopted computer technology in the late 1970s. It later chose a commercial CAD package, Microstation, which gave it the ability to accurately assess a site's development potential. Bentley's MasterPiece rendering package was then acquired, to enable design teams to visualize designs for clients. Triforma was used initially to alter an existing design.

On-screen help for structural headaches: a new software package promises to take the effort and guess-work out of structural concrete design

Article Abstract:

Reinforced concrete allows a design to be more flexible than structural steel, however additional effort is needed to consider the potential of all construction options. The Reinforced Concrete Council (RCC) has developed a new software program to remove effort and guesswork from concrete design. It provides graphical display and semi-automatic model generation, simulating different combinations of construction.
