Cisco acquires 4% of Akamai for $49 million

Cisco Systems Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire a 4% share of Akamai Technologies Inc. for $49 million. The price of the transaction give Akamai a value of approximately $1.2 billion. Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Akamai is a developer of technology which improves the operational speed of Web sites. The deal represents a major infusion of capital for Akamai.
