Article Abstract:
An unnamed American hotel group is negotiating with the Belgian company, City Hotels, to buy six hotels with a combined value of BFr 3.12bn. The hotels in question are the Brussels based Palace, Delta, Arenberg and Diplomat, the Ostend based Royal Astor, and a further hotel, the Galaxy. The operation is estimated to generate liquid assets for City Hotels worth BFr 1.8mn, and capital gains of BFr 1.4bn. City Hotels, having recently opened 9 new US hotels, are planning a further US$ 100mn investment in America before the end of 1998. The company also plans to expand in Europe (France, Spain and Germany in particular), and in Asia. Shares in the company are estimated to be worth BFr 7,000 each (in July 1998).

Cobepa takes 33% of zetes

Zetes expects to increase its turnover to BFr 700mn in 1998, from BFr 450mn in 1997, the year when a 25% increase was reported over 1996. The Belgian firm, which has a 50 staff, designs and implements integrated solutions in the automatic identification field, especially barcodes. The company designs specific software products and installs radiofrequency local networks. To keep developing (in addition to the organic growth, the company is planning to make acquisitions in Europe), Zetes has just sold a 33% share of its capital to Cobepa, the Belgian holding group. The operation allows Zetes to increased its equity to BFr 190mn.

TTS posted a turnover of BFr 1.2bn in 1997 with Italy and France contributing to BFr 619mn and BFr 271mn respectively. The Belgian road transport group has a fleet of 73 dump trucks, 92 tankers and 96 trucks with tarpaulin in Belgium. The company has just invested BFr 500mn into a new unit in an area dedicated to cargo at Bierset, Belgium. There is a 250 staff operational in the new unit as the former building in Hannut had become too small.
