Competitively speaking: a born organiser, Marco Goldschmied of Richard Rogers Partnership is being tipped as a possible future RIBA president
Article Abstract:
Marco Goldschmied is a founding director of the Richard Rogers Partnership (RRP), along with Mike Davies and John Young. He has recently been elected to the Architects Registration Board, and is chairman of the RIBA Awards Group. He wants to introduce a new category award for the first building designed by a new architectural practice to encourage newcomers. He would also like to see more public participation, although he believes the awards should remain first and foremost about design. Goldschmied could be a potential successor to David Rock, RIBA president.

Flying colours
Article Abstract:
Mike Davies became a director of architects Richard Rogers Partnership (RPR) in 1971. He is heavily involved in the Millennium Dome structure which is being built at Greenwich, London, to celebrate the year 2000. Davies is interested in the development of autonomous environment and lightweight structures, with the involvement of RPR in the Millennium Dome a continuation of Davies' interest in structure design. He feels the Dome will be a big advantage to the UK and is disillusioned by the public backlash against the project.

Stansted revisited
Article Abstract:
The new airport terminal, designed by architect Sir Norman Foster, at Stansted Airport, opened in March 1991. The building has been praised for its spaciousness and its simple style, with all public areas occupying a single concourse floor. Foster's terminal has real appeal to passengers, of whom just under 5 million will use it in 1996. However, its advocates are concerned that the building's ethos is being threatened by the popularity of airport shopping centres.
