Confectionery and ice cream in Italy

Article Abstract:

Italian production of confectionery and ice cream amounted to 580,000 t in 1998, worth 8.63 trillion lira. Exports of confectionery and ice cream in 1998 reached 998 billion lira, representing 11.6% of total production value. Apparent consumption of sugar and chocolate confectionery and ice cream in 1998 totalled some 541,000 t, worth 8.18 trillion lira. It is thought that Italy's confectionery and ice cream market has reached a plateau and will remain stable over the next few years, with most production prospects depending on increased exports.

Sugar confectionery in Spain

Article Abstract:

Output of chewing gum and sugar confectionery in Spain grew 6% a year on average during 1990-1996 to 163,500 tons in total, with exports accounting for 45% of output in 1996. Chewing gum accounted for 40% of Spain's total 108,000 tons annual market for chewing gum and sugar confectionery, with the total market worth about Ptas68,000 million-Ptas70,000 million at importers' and producers' prices. The market is expected to stagnate due to saturation, with growth potential only perceived for adult products.

Confectionery and sweet snacks in Spain

Spain's delivery of confectionery and sweet snacks amounted to 699,059 t in 1999, worth 348 billion Spanish pesetas. Volume and value both rose by 2% from 1998. An analysis of the Spanish market is presented in further detail.
