Cellular phone companies in Hong Kong have adopted various unconventional and enticing strategies in promoting their products, including the integration of color and fashion designs to phone units. Hong Kong Telecommunications Ltd, for instance, designed an electric-yellow logo to enhance the appeal of its "One2Free" service. The company further employed the services of two celebrities, namely pop music favorite Aaron Kwok and Mr. Kanishero. With about 2.47 million subscribers, Hong Kong represents one of the sectors with the largest penetration rate for mobile phones in the world.

AOL elbows into Asia

Internet service provider America Online Inc. (AOL) has launched its Internet service in Hong Kong after more than a year's delay. The entry of AOL was considered overdue because the firm made an announcement in Feb 1998 that it was entering the country. The belated entry of AOL has raised doubts on the ability of the firm to create an impact in the highly saturated market of Hong Kong and put a question mark on its expansion plans for China.
