Control your cash-flow
Article Abstract:
A company director explains that cash is the most important asset a company has, and it must be managed carefully. Do not increase stock levels if the company cannot afford it. Try to move old stock as quickly as possible and ensure that directors oversee large orders. Get the best deal you can from suppliers and be firm with debtors by sending out invoices on time and following them up soon afterwards. Develop good relations with the bank and keep them informed of your company's situation. The ultimate responsibility for managing the finances rests with the directors.

Have you got what it takes to go forward?
Article Abstract:
To be successful the director needs to have a detached view of his business and to allow himself time to consider possibile ways to improve and take his company forward. If he becomes too involved with small details his ability to fully understand what strategic developments are necessary to encourage growth will be limited. The use of other professionals such as accountants to advise on areas within their specialist knowledge is vital.

Are you keeping up appearances?
Article Abstract:
Successful companies have a corporate image which reflects a contemporary style and mirrors the directors' aims and ambitions. A lot of directors are not specifically involved in image making, but awareness of good design and public relations should not be underestimated. Design and marketing are seen as one and may have a profound effect on an image portrayed.
