Labour shadow foreign minister Cook gave a speech that was more pro-European than the party has been lately. He will base the decision to join a single currency purely on an economic assessment. The Conservative Party is hoping to win votes with Euroscepticism, but it has not helped them in the polls.

Baffled by Britain

The UK Conservative Party's self-destructive attempts to fight economic and monetary union are baffling to most EC countries, who have given up hope for enacting it soon. Tory paranoia is doubly strange since the EC's imminent expansion into Eastern Europe will forward several UK obejctives.
