Packard Bell NEC losses are deeper than forecast

Packard Bell NEC Inc. posted almost $1 billion in losses for the 1997 and 1998 years. This was higher than what the company had previously acknowledged. Company officials assert that their firm is beginning to rebound. In 1997, Packard Bell posted $487 million in operating lossses and $500 million in 1998. The company also posted a 28% decline in sales in 1998 to $2.8 billion. NEC Corp. executives forecasted that Packard Bell would post only a $138 million loss in the year ending in March. NEC is the parent firm of Packard Bell.
