DEA-like models for the efficiency evaluation of hierarchically structured units

Article Abstract:

A study shows that the knowledge of the internal structure of decision making units (DMUs) gives different results with respect to the 'black box' perspective when considering data envelopment analysis (DEA) models. One-level and two-level hierarchical structures of the DMU are considered while evaluating the maximum relative efficiency of a DMU.
