DENMARK: FORMUS FEARS FURTHER FWA LICENCES

Article Abstract:

Formus Communications, the American telecom company that has been awarded one of the FWA licenses in Denmark, fears financial problems if the Danish Government decides to award even more licenses than the five that already have been decided. Formus will invest more than DKr 1bn (USD 120mn) in infrastructure, but the company is under financial pressure, as the planned quotation on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange has been postponed for the second time owing to weak market conditions. Telestyrelsen, the Danish telecom authority, has announced that further FWA licenses are likely to be awarded in 2001. This has made players such as Tele Danmark and Telia hopeful, even though they didn't get any licenses in the first round.
