DENMARK: NEW ACTION PLAN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Article Abstract:

Svend Auken, the Danish environment minister, and Ole Stavad, the Danish minister of trade and industry, have launched a new action plan for the environment. The aim of the new plan is to make use of the business potentials in environmental efforts and to boost the demand for environment-friendly products. The government also wants to focus on the development of cleaner technologies and products within companies and the agriculture. Peter Gaemelke, head of the Danish Agriculture Council, says however that focusing on ecology is not enough - we must also be better in making use of the resources. He says there is currently a surplus in the production of organic products and for example, the greater part of organic milk produced in the country is sold as standard milk.

DENMARK: DAIRIES CRITICAL OF EXPORT DUTY

Article Abstract:

The Danish dairy business is planning to take legal proceedings regarding the so-called export duty that is to be introduced by the government as from the beginning of next year. The duty of DKr200 (US$25) on each product type to be exported will have a more severe effect on the dairy business than on other business. The reason for this is that dairies export many types of products in small quantities, writes the paper. According to the paper, the duty hampers competition as no other EU country has introduced it.
