DENMARK/POLAND: OLICOM ACQUIRED BY INTEL
Article Abstract:
The R&D department of Olicom, the Danish IT company, has been acquired by the American chip producer Intel. The department has 220 employees, 96 of whom in Denmark and 124 in Poland. Through the acquisition, Intel expands its R&D activities in the data networking field in Europe. Two weeks ago, the British network producer Madge acquired Olicom's core business, Token Ring technology. Olicom has lost DKr 700mn (USD 10mn) in the past five-months period, and the book-value of the company has fallen to almost zero.

Olicom shares plunge 37% on weak results for half
Article Abstract:
Olicom AS saw its share value fall by 37% following its announcement of 1999 first-half results that were lower-than-expected. Olicom, a computer company based in Denmark, posted a 686 million kroner (92.3 million euros) pretax loss during the first-half period. During the same period in 1998, Olicom posted pretax profits of 96 million kroners. The company also reported a 709 million net loss during the period, compared to a 67 million kronor net profit in 1998.

Olicom has entered into a joint venture with Vizion Factory e-learning. The two companies are to develop and market software that is to be used for palmtops and mobile phones.
