DENMARK: BANKS TO DISCONTINUE BANK CARD DEVELOPMENT

Article Abstract:

Banks in Denmark are to discontinue their efforts to develop a more secure payment card with an electronic chip due to the reluctance by the retail trade to pay for the development by charging a fee for payment card transactions in stores. This means that the Danish dankort payment card will not be equipped with a chip but the VISA and Mastercard payment cards will have a chip so as to avoid damages required by foreign card companies.
