Daycare

Article Abstract:

By 1984, 50 percent of Canada's mothers with preschool aged children will be employed and reports indicate that 90 percent of these women have informal arrangements for the daily care of their children. The alternatives of free day care (paid for by the Canadian government), subsidized day care, and tax advantages for parents with day care aged children are discussed. If instituted by the Canadian government, subsidized day care programs could result in payments to parents or to day care centers, another controversy that needs to be settled prior to passage of a social services law governing this area.
