De Beers is it

Article Abstract:

De Beers is seeking to defend its diamond cartel threatened by a drop in demand for diamonds as a result of the economic crisis in Asia. Meanwhile, supply from Canada is increasing. De Beers promotes diamonds in general, but competition would mean there would be less incentive to promote them if other firms benefit. De Beers still has cost and volume advantages and could take the route of branding with an emphasis on the quality of its products as a defense.
