December retail sales jump 0.9% amid robust holiday shopping season

The 2006 holiday shopping season in the United States ended on a strong note, with December sales up 0.9% over the previous month, and 5.4% over last December . Warmer weather, lower fuel prices, and low merchandise prices attracted a greater than usual number of holiday shoppers. Electronics and appliance retailers saw some of the strongest growth.
