A dispute has arisen over links between websites involving eBay, which wants to prevent websites allowing users to access its auction database, when they range across a number of auction services. Bidder's Edge and Auction Watch put users in touch with auctions for particular products such as beanie babies. Customers could be affected if EBay is successful. The company is likely to be dominant among these sites, and universal search sites could mean that users to not have to use eBay to obtain the biggest market.

Amazon is a major online bookseller which invites readers to review the works that they have read. The company uses guidelines to vet the reviews, and will not permit, for example, obscenities. Reviewers may review their own works anonymously, though this is not officially allowed. Some works give rise to general discussions, such as 'Monica's Story' which led to a debate on the US presidency. Generally, contributors take reviewing seriously, despite the occasional prank.
