Some German officials, such as Bavaria's premier Edmund Stoiber, are hesitant about the implementation of the single currency throughout the European Union. Bavaria's influence over Germany's monetary policy may be such that a back-up plan may be created to accommodate non-member nations.

Still waiting for the pfennig to drop
Article Abstract:
Germany's Bundesbank is expected to lower interest rates soon. The drop in the discount rate was expected after the Group of 7 meeting in February 1993. The drop in interest rates is necessary to curb inflation and stimulate the economy.
