Article Abstract:
The military government of Myanmar wants democratic reform to proceed on its terms. Delegates at a constitutional convention were told that the military must retain a strong presence in any new government. Myanmar's last civilian government was also controlled by the military.

Article Abstract:
Eight Nobel laureates traveled to Burma to express support for fellow laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, an activist under house arrest. The visiting laureates were denied entry, and some of them are asking the United Nations to pressure the junta.
