Denmark: Sydkraft on shopping spree
Article Abstract:
Energy company Sydkraft is on a large scale shopping round for incinerators and thermal power stations in Denmark. In December the company will buy Praesto county's thermal power station. Sydkraft is also planning to take over three other power plants from Danish municipalities during 2002. Bjorn Kelvgard at Sydkraft said the acquisitions will result in less expensive electricity for Danish consumers. By adding capacity, Sydkraft will achieve economies of scale in Denmark, enabling the company to lower the price to consumers, Kelvgard said. Henning Petersen of Praesto county also expects the cost of electricity to decrease as a result of the sale. In addition to large scale production, the planned shift from today's natural gas to a plant fuelled by wood chips will help to cut prices, Petersen said.

DENMARK: ELECTRICITY PRICES LIKELY TO FALL
Article Abstract:
Electricity prices are likely to decline in Denmark as a consequence of the deregulation of the market and free trade between the Scandinavian countries. This is the conclusion of Konkurrencestyrelsen, the Danish competition authority. A cable between Jutland and Norway, which now is being dealt with by the EU's competition agency, will open up the market and the prices in Norway and Denmark will be equalized; but until now, the development has been hampered by former monopolies such as Danish Elsam and Norwegian Statkraft. FRom now on, such problems will be dealt with by Brussels, says Bo Kragelund at Konkurrencestyrelsen.

Denmark: Emergency plan for electricity network
Article Abstract:
Eltra has worked out an emergency plan for the electricity network in western Denmark. Reliability of the network has been reduced as a consequence of the new regulation of wind power production. As this production is not able to be prognosticated in detail, there is a risk of overproduction in relation to capacity of the network. The emergency plan includes making producers willing to reduce their production voluntarily once there might be problems with the network.
