A turnover of more than US$ 7.2bn was generated with the disposal and treatment of special waste in Europe in 1997. Until 2001, this market is to increase to US$ 7.6bn, according to estimates of the international consultancy company Frost & Sullivan. Waste collection will represent around a third of the total turnover of the market for special waste services in the year 2004. Germany was responsible for about 40% of the total turnover of 1997. On the second place was Italy, followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Prices for special waste services are to increase.
