Deutsche Telekom equals Mannesmann price cuts

Article Abstract:

Deutsche Telekom AG of Germany will reduce its rates for mobile-phone clients to 1.29 marks per minute ($0.77) from the present rate of 1.89 marks per minute on Dec. 1, 1998, a move that matches Mannesmann AG's announced rate cuts that will be implemented on Jan. 1, 1999. Deutsche Telekom's decision to match the calling rates for its "Telly-Local-Tariff" clients a month earlier than its competitor is expected to further heat-up the competitive German mobile-phone market. Viag Interkom, the newest entrant to the industry, continues to provide the lowest rates at 0.29 marks per minute but is limited by its reach.
