Diller, Viacom clash in Italian battle of pop vs. shop

Article Abstract:

Barry Diller, whose Home Shopping Network (HSN) owns part of Italian TV-shopping channel, Rete Mia, and Viacom Inc. are involved in a legal battle with Italian regulators. Italian regulators have decided to reorganize Italy's TV-licensing system by taking Rete A, an Italian-language affiliate of Viacom's MTV, off the air. Rete Mia will be getting the frequency, and because of this, Rete A is suing the regulators. Nando DiFilippo, HSN's former general counsel and executive vice president, who had an independent Italian home-shopping program on Rete Mia, is also suing the regulators. Meanwhile, MTV fans have been protesting the disappearance of MTV.
