Does money speak louder than perks?: what are the pros and cons of cash pay?
Article Abstract:
Cash pay is seen as immediate and uncomplicated to employees, however it is liable to income tax, whereas some benefits in kind can be tax free. Watson Wyatt's Work UK Survey 1995 found that four in 10 employees were satisfied with their, with the highest levels of satisfaction in central government. It also found that 27% received some type of variable pay in the forms of bonuses, commission payments or incentives. Watson Wyatt's global management study, The People Factor, indicates that businesses expect to change pay structures, with the proportion of variable pay increasing, and the introduction of more flexible benefit and compensation programmes.

Perks without the work?
Article Abstract:
The issue of directors' pay has always been a difficult one. Politicians and business experts support closer links between pay and performance, but measurement of directors' effectiveness is not simple. A company should reward good board performance, but many companies follow incentive schemes developed by other companies rather than developing schemes more appropriate to their own situation. A company should begin by defining the tasks of its board, it should base its incentive scheme on long-term growth, and incentives should encompass a range of performance indicators.

Perks and foibles
Article Abstract:
Many employees in the UK do not fully appreciate the financial value of the benefits offered to them by their employer. In particular, they tend to overlook more valuable benefits such as private medical insurance. A benefits package in itself will not necessarily boost employee loyalty and morale, and it is vital to ensure that benefits are properly managed and presented to employees. Furthermore, employers must ensure that their benefits strategy is part of a clear set of corporate messages.
