Domino effect doesn't explain Asia bank woes

Article Abstract:

Problems facing the banking systems in Asian countries are not necessarily related, because there are vast differences in the financial architectures of each country's banks. Difficulties plaguing the banking systems of South Korea and Thailand may not be similar to troubles in the banking sectors of Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong or Singapore, where asset quality is relatively good. Factors such as cost control, efficiency and specific market situations should instead be used as a guide to risk assessment.
