BANGALORE AIRPORT TO GET NEW RUNWAY
Article Abstract:
A new runway and taxiing area to enable the simultaneous landing of ten aircraft is being built at the Bangalore airport at a cost of Rs10 crore. The new Rs22 crore international terminal at Bangalore airport will be inaugurated on January 1, 1999. A new runway, escalators, aero bridges and a 2000-seater passenger terminal of international standards are to be added on later. The taxiway would accommodate ten aircraft simultaneously. The civil aviation ministry is to invest Rs200 crore to modernise airports in Karnataka. The Devanahalli international airport proposal has been approved and a feasibility report from the Tata consortium is awaited. (nr)

ITI SETS UP RS153-CR VLSI FACILITY IN B'LORE
Article Abstract:
ITI Ltd has set up a Rs153 crore very large scale integration (VLSI) fabrication facility at Bangalore. It is the only such facility in India which can operate at one micron level. The facility can give design and fabrication assistance to all domestic industries who want to create their own applications specific integrated circuits (Asic). The facility has been totally financed y the department of telecommunications while technology inputs and related design libraries have been provided by Atmel of France under a $3 million technology transfer agreement.
