ENVIRO MISSION
Article Abstract:
The Hyderabad Waste Management Project is to set up India's first scientific Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) to dispose hazardous industrial wastes from 280 industries. TSDF will occupy 50 acres of land and a buffer green belt is planned on 150 acres. The project is being taken up with aid from the Australian government which has provided technology and promised a laboratory. The industries in Hyderabad would be able to utilise the facility from April 1999. It is designed for a life span of 25 years and post closure maintenance of 10 years in order to protect six downstream villages from contamination. The World Bank has decided to aid six more such TSDFs in Andhra Pradesh. (nr)
