Earnings increased in third quarter at drug companies

Schering-Plough Corp. and Pfizer Inc. both posted double-digit increases in their earnings for the 2000 third-quarter. Schering-Plough posted a 14% rise in its quarterly net income to $591 million. Pfizer posted a 23% rise in quarterly net income to $1.36 billion (1.63 billion euros).

Galen's profit rose 75% in quarter on U.S. sales
