Electric dreams

Article Abstract:

Features of the deregulated Nordic electricity market include increasing overseas interest, increasing consolidation and the impact of government intervention. European electricity companies have interests in the Swedish and Finnish electricity industry, and US investment banks are also showing an interest. Seven companies dominate electricity production in Sweden, a country with interesting prospects due to the government decision to phase out nuclear energy. The countries operate differing regulations on domestic and foreign ownership, with Norway having more stringent rules.

Watching the detectives

Article Abstract:

Investment banks are taking the issue of commercial due diligence (CDD) more seriously when acting for clients on proposed bids. CDD investigates potential risk by analysing external factors of a company, such as employees, customer satisfaction, supplier networks and major competitors. These issues can reveal a lot more about a company than investigating financial records which may not reveal hidden dangers and risk.
