Marxist guerrillas in Colombia are committing such terrorist acts as bombings, kidnappings, blowing up oil pipelines and closing roads. The goals of the guerrillas are not readily known, but fighting them has proven to be difficult. It is not likely they will topple the government.

Colombia's guerilla wars
Article Abstract:
War between two large guerrilla groups and local military groups are escalating in Colombia, but Pres Ernesto Samper is creating a forum for a potential cease-fire. He plans to involve the guerrilla groups in peace negotiations - a first for Colombia.
