Thin capitalization rules: an Anglo-American comparison

Article Abstract:

Tne United Kingdom is the only one of the Anglo-American countries that relies on an arms-length approach to prevent thin capitalization, and other Anglo-American countries, for example, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States favor the fixed-ratio approach. The fixed-ratio approach runs counter to the recommendations of certain international agencies and may place unnecessary restrictions on international business enterprises where apparent that debt finance is not a substitute for equity but used for real commercial reasons.
