Europe's Single Sky beckons

Article Abstract:

The European Commission (EC) has proposed a Single Sky policy under which air traffic control will be brought under the jurisdiction of the institutions of the European Union (EU). EC is already preparing specific legislative proposals to be considered by EU heads of government at their summit meeting in Mar 2001. The Commission hopes that a new system will start functioning in 2004. The EC proposal drew support from the Assn of European Airlines.

Private talks in UK

Article Abstract:

Seven airline groups have expressed their interest in the privatization of the UK National Air Traffic Services. The UK Dept of the Environment will likely shortlist two or three to create an opportunity for new partnerships to emerge between interested companies. The agency is seeking to finalize bids by Feb 2001 so that the Public-Private Partnership tender can be completed by the end of the 1st qtr FY2001.
