Imports put the breaks on a growth engine: auto parts

Article Abstract:

Japanese auto parts imports from Asian countries are steadily increasing and forcing Japanese companies to cut costs of procurement in order to stay competitive. Total imports grew 12% last year to 557.85 billion yen with China and Thailand sending 63.56 billion yen and 47.76 billion yen worth of exports, respectively.

The quality of products imported from China, along with very competitive pricing and a surge in volume has now found favor with finicky Japanese consumers, causing a number of Japanese industries to appeal to the Japanese government to place restraints on goods imported from China. The article details the changes in goods exported from China and their effect on the Japanese marketplace.
