FRANCE: THE MARKET OF PESTICIDES

Article Abstract:

With sales of FFr 1.12bn, up 9% from 1997, pesticides reported the strongest progression on the French market of garden treatment products, in addition to being the biggest segment. Enriching agents and culture supports reached FFr 880mn, up 1% from 1997 and fertilizers followed with FFr 460mn, up 1.5%. The global market reported a 5.5% increase at FFr 2.80bn in 1998. In the pesticide segment, weed killers accounted for FFr 510mn in sales in 1998, up 12% followed by fungicides and insecticides, worth FFr 440mn, up 10%. Products for home plants reported the highest progression, up 14% at FFr 300mn. In a context where the public forces tend to force the amateur gardeners to limit the use of treatment products, the pre-measured products where the user simply adds the required amount of water, are being very successful.
