FRANCE/WORLD: ADVERTISING ON THE INTERNET

Article Abstract:

According to forecasts by Forrester Research, advertising investments on the Internet are expected to come to US$ 15bn worldwide in 2003, compared with US$ 3bn in 1999 and only US$ 670mn in 1996. The United States is by far the principal advertising market on the Internet, with US$ 1.2bn of space purchased in 1999. In France, the market is still modest, but is growing rapidly. It represented FFr 110mn in the third quarter of 1999, up 378% compared with the same period in 1998. Advertisers' favourite type of advertisements are strips, which represent 85% of the total investments, trailed by sponsoring with 12%, and others with 3%. Other types of advertisements, such as rich media, which combines media with visual and audio flow, and 'just a click away,' appear to promise a bright future. The 'just a click away allows the viewer to click on a product seen on a television screen in order to obtain a reduction coupon or to have a product delivered

Saudi Arabia: Danone launches Danao

Article Abstract:

Danone, the French food giant, has launched Danao on the Saudi market. This milk and fruit juice drink has been launched in partnership with the Al Faisallah Saudi group. Danone has acquired a 50.1% sake in Alsafi, a dairy product subsidiary of Al Faisallah. The new Alsafi-Danone group intends to become the leader on the Saudi market, which is estimated to have 20mn consumers, half of whom are under twenty. The Danao launch will be backed by an extensive press and TV advertising campaign.
