Tricon Global Restaurants Inc. is an independent corporation that resulted from efforts by PepsiCo to concentrate on its main soft drink and snack divisions in 1997. The world's biggest restaurant company based in Louisville, KY, lists Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell as among its portfolio of fast food chains. Tricon operates over 29,000 fast foods restaurants across the world, 44% of which are company-operated and joint-venture units, 45% of which are franchises and 11% of which are licensed. Its Aside from pizza, its expanded Pizza Hut product range include sandwiches, breadsticks, pasta and salads. Taco Bell is a Mexican-style fast food chain while KFC is a chicken-based products operation.

The company which began as McDonald's System Inc in 1955, has grown from its 1,000 outlets in 1968 to over 12,250 sites in the US today, which serve over 18 million people daily. Aside from the expansion of its menu from a limited number of burgers, McDonald's also regularly launches promotional items and products such as the McRib Sandwich. However, despite its dominance, some analysts have become critical of the giant's standing in the future.
