First U.K. miner's strike in 15 years faces RJB
Article Abstract:
RJB Mining PLC is facing the possibility of a strike, the first to be staged by miners in the UK in 15 years, as it failed to reach an agreement with the miners' union. The National Union of Mineworkers will be considering a strike as its demand for a substantial improvement in their pay and conditions package was not met by the company, which proposed for a five-year pay package of inflation minus 1%. Analysts believe that the situation will be difficult for the coal producer, which would have to consider cost-reduction and its need to maintain production to protect its earnings.
