For Airbus's A3XX, a weighty decision is unbearably light
Article Abstract:
Airbus Industrie is considering using Glare or other materials for its A3XX superjumbo jet. Glare is a laminate that contains glass-fiber tape pressed at high temperature between layers of aluminum. It is 15% lighter than the usual aluminum alloys and is more resistant to fire and cracking. The company is looking for lighter materials, so that the plane, which could carry up to 650 passengers, would be lighter. According to the company's vice president for strategy, Adam Brown, the company is very impressed with the potential of Glare. The question, however, is whether the material could fly.

War of words
Article Abstract:
Merger discussions between DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG and British Aerospace PLC have intensified in recent weeks. The merger already has resulted in turmoil at Airbus Industrie as France's Aerospatiale SA threatens to delay the restructuring plan of Airbus. Industry analysts have said that the Anglo-German merger would become part of a wider European defense firm that may or may not include France's defense firms.
