Channel's ad revenue soars

MTV Networks Asia is projected to increase its 1998 advertising revenue by one-half to two-thirds over 1997 results, according to company president Frank Brown. The forecasted increase is partly based on the music-channel network's ad revenue for the first seven months of 1998, Brown said. MTV Networks Asia, a joint venture of MTV Networks division of the New York-based Viacom Inc. and Polygram NV, accounted the increased ad revenue to its localized programming that draws more regional and local advertisers, he added.

Daniel Yu and Sarah Sargent are planning to launch a new magazine in Asia called 'The Asset.' Considering the closure of several publications in the region, the move is a delicate one for the two former leading editors at Asiamoney magazine. The shutdown of magazines such as 'Global Trader,' 'Chief Executive Asia' and Asia Magazine were attributed to the sharp decline in advertising revenues. 'The Asset,' which will target corporate treasurers and finance directors, plans on publishing case studies of financial deals.
