France: Casino launches a leisure centre
Article Abstract:
L'Immobiliere Groupe Casino has invested EUR 45.73mn to transform the former Geant hypermarket at Lescar near Pau into a shopping centre with 60 shops plus two wings for leisure: a skating rink, a bowling alley, a fitness centre, and restaurants. The centre will have 7,740 square metres of floor space and will also have two child-minding facilities for parents' peace of mind while carrying out their activities. The centre is counting on 800,000 potential clients for a turnover of EUR 107mn. Food traffic will be provided by a Carrefour centre located not far from the new shopping centre.

Leclerc s'associe avec la Caisse d'Epargne
Article Abstract:
The Leclerc centres have teamed up with the Savings Bank in order to organise a campaign to explain the Euro to their customers from 17 June 1998 to 27 June 1998. Savings Bank counsellors will be present in the Leclerc stores in order to inform consumers. A game is being organised by the two partners; the winners may receive a savings account in Euros, purchase vouchers for 200 Euros, and 10 journeys to visit a European capital.

The Homsys company created the intranet portal for the Leclerc group which aims to rationalise internal information. Each purchasing group has its own site, giving it relative independence for data processing.
