France: Goals for Vercors-Sassanage blue cheese

Article Abstract:

Vercors-Sassange blue cheese which has held AOC certification for two years, intends to develop its sales throughout France. In 2000, the market of this blue cheese, made by 10 farmhouse producers and by Lactalis' Fromalp dairy, made a turnover of EUR 7mn. The AOC area can produce 12mn litres of milk, thanks to young farmers, making it possible to produce 1,400 tonnes of Vercors-Sassenage blue cheese. In order to increase the awareness of this cheese, the Syndicat Interprofessionel du Bleu du Vercors-Sassenage (SIVER), the Vercors blue cheese association, organised the first blue cheese festival at Villard-de-Lans, in the Isere departement on the 25 and 26 August 2001, in collaboration with the Vercors Regional Natural Park, the Tourist industry, producers, shopkeepers, and restaurant owners.

France: Bongrain's recommendations for cheese section

Article Abstract:

In order to attract consumers to the cheese department, Bongrain recommends dramatising these departments in the stores and in brochures with big baskets for fresh-packaged products and trimming for the delicatessen counters. The group also suggests optimising the lineal metres and grouping light products, kids' products, and appetisers. It also recommends not increasing the sales price too much.
