Fringe benefits
Article Abstract:
Because the best employee fringe benefits in Canada are generally available from large organizations (such as manufacturing firms) with unionized employees, and because most of these positions are held by male workers, employee fringe benefits in Canada are possibly sexist in their application. Similarly, since vacation time off with pay and pension or retirement benefits are usually tied to seniority requirements and because men have achieved many more senior positions than women (while women have accepted many more part-time employment positions that forego vacation time entirely), these fringe benefits may also benefit men more than women. Most research in this area is based upon extrapolation and conjecture, since statistics as to male and female fringe benefit recipients are unavailable.

Equal-pay policy
Article Abstract:
Work is generally paid for according to the skill levels required by the work, the effort of the employee, and the degree of responsibility the position entails. Other factors, such as the environment in which the work must be performed, may or may not affect pay levels. However, differences between male and female wage levels for comparable work in Canada have also been attributed to such nondiscriminatory factors as: shortages and oversupplies of workers within given occupations or geographic locations. However, most studies point to employer and customer discriminatory attitudes as the primary source of wage differentials between men and women. The problem of the future may be declining employment opportunity levels for women as salary levels become less discriminatory.

Policy dynamics
Article Abstract:
The United States' revocation of the 1982 US-China arms sales agreement in 1992 and sale of F16 fighter aircraft to Taiwan has facilitated the expansion of Taiwan's defence arsenal and has strengthened its position in negotiating arms deals. France hesitated in its sale of Dassault Aviation Mirage 2000-5 to Taiwan since it felt that Taiwan would use the offer to negotiate with the US for a better price in the F16 deal. Taiwan can use its abundant cash resources to buy weapons from any country and thus upset the balance of military power in the region.
