From riches to rags, and back again
Article Abstract:
German sportswear manufacturer Adidas lost direction in the 1970s and was negatively affected by diversification into sub-brands. However, it was rescued by Robert Louis-Dreyfus, who relaunched it as a credible sports brand. It is now hoping to compete with US market leader Nike. A similar recovery has been seen at Italian fashion concern Gucci. This company was rescued by Investcorp, which freed it from the interference of its founding family. It has now seen a substantial rise in profits.
