GM, Ford step up efforts to reduce costs in Europe

Article Abstract:

Responding to losses in their European markets, General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co., are seeking ways to reduce production costs. General Motors' German subsidiary Opel AG is negotiating with workers to extend work hours without increasing wages. Ford's Jaguar PLC plans to cut production in the U.K. by an estimated 12%.

GM agrees to pay Fiat $1.99 billion to settle dispute

GM has no plans to help recapitalize its Fiat auto unit

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp. (GM) said that it was not planning to recapitalize its Fiat S.p.A. unit. However, GM's chief executive, Rick Wagoner, would not rule the possibility of recapitalization out.
