VW Marketing Team Adds Two as Car Sales Rise 10%

Volkswagen AG's sales were 10% higher in the first quarter of 1999 compared to the first quarter in 1998. The company sold 1.18 million units in the first three months of 1999. Volkswagon has hired two sales managers to boost its sales and marketing team. Hans-Ulrich Sachs will take over VW's sales activities, and Daniel Coppens will be VW's new chief of sales for commercial vehicle.

Germany-based Volkswagen AG's chairman, Ferdinand Piech said that he favors development of a company's own product line over the acquisition of company's with possibly fading brands. Piech said that VW has been checking out possible acquisition targets and has found nothing worthwhile.
