GUJARAT PLANS TO HOP ON TO IT BANDWAGON

Article Abstract:

The government of Gujarat has formulated its information technology policy which envisages setting up an information corridor by 2001 AD. The corridor is to connect the state capital to different taluk head quarters. The government has decided to involve the private sector in implementing its IT policy. The private sector will be invited to participate in creating the information corridor, setting up information kiosks and database- oriented services to be provided the government departments. The IT sector is to be given sales tax concessions and capital investment subsidies. (khr)

20 PERCENT DROP SEEN IN GUJARAT'S GROUNDNUT CROP

Article Abstract:

The delayed rains have caused damage to the winter groundnut crop in Gujarat. The groundnut output is likely to be 5 lakh tonnes lesser than that in the last season. The winter groundnut crop output is estimated at 1.9 million tonnes against 2.4 million tonnes of last winter season. Gujarat accounts for 35 percent of the total groundnut output of India. It is cultivated in 1.8 million hectares of land in Gujarat. (rk)
